Go to EndNote – to toggle between Word and your EndNote Library.
Insert Citation – to search for and find the citation you want to insert in EndNote.

Now save the output style by clicking the File > Save As option.
Now, this should sort the library according to Date or Year field as you have chosen from ascending or descending order.
Click the button to the right of each field to indicate ascending or descending order.
(It is not required to use all five options.)
Click on drop down for "Sort First by this" and select Date or Year as per your requirement Enter the field names in the order you want the references sorted.
Once you select "Other." a Sort Options window pops up.
Common options are listed, and you may also configure a custom sort order. The Bibliography Sort Order section determines how the bibliography should be sorted.
On the right pane, select "Other." under Bibliography Sort Order.
In the style window, on the left pane, go to "Sort Order" under Bibliography.
In the EndNote styles window select the required output style and click on Edit.
In EndNote program, go to Edit > Output Styles > Open Style Manager.
